Microsoft expands Copilot with new features and usage-based billing

Microsoft is rolling out significant updates to its Copilot artificial intelligence tool, introducing new capabilities and revamping user interaction, alongside changes to its pricing structure for small and midsize businesses.

According to reporting by CRN, Microsoft is enhancing Copilot with new features like Home, a new starting point for user queries, and Today, a command center for missed communications. The Code capability, powered by GitHub Copilot technology, will allow users to generate applications and workflows from natural language prompts. Autopilot, a revamped personal agent, will offer proactive assistance. These updates, along with Fabric IQ and Work IQ, aim to integrate AI more deeply into business processes. Microsoft is also shifting its Microsoft 365 Copilot Business licenses to usage-based billing by default starting November 2. This move is expected to create new opportunities for solution providers to offer more complex AI solutions. The company is also introducing cost management tools and a plug-in registry to streamline AI integration and governance. These changes signal Microsoft's commitment to evolving AI beyond individual productivity to tackle more complex business challenges.
