MSPs Unprepared to Handle AI-Driven Growth

Artificial intelligence is fueling growth for managed service providers, but new research suggests they are falling behind in readiness and security, Channel Futures reports.

OpenText's Global Managed Security Survey found that 92% of MSPs credited AI with business gains in the past year and 96% expect that momentum to continue in 2025.

Yet only about half feel confident advising small and mid-sized businesses on AI adoption, a sharp decline from 2024 when 90% said they were prepared to meet AI-related security demands.

"MSPs are under pressure to match the pace of AI adoption by their SMB customers," said Michael DePalma, vice president at OpenText Cybersecurity, adding that integrated and scalable services are critical to avoid "tool fatigue."

While fewer than half of MSPs have deployed AI cybersecurity agents for customers, many are testing AI internally to streamline support and strengthen detection. The survey also showed SMBs prioritizing integration, simplicity, and bundled solutions, while nearly all MSPs plan to expand portfolios in 2025.
