Vantage Brings Automated FinOps Invoicing to Managed Service Providers

MSPs sit right between the complexity of cloud environments and the pressure to deliver a smooth customer experience. They manage infrastructure for hundreds, sometimes thousands of clients, but many are still stuck with outdated tools like old billing systems or makeshift processes to handle invoicing. That usually means manual work, high costs, and plenty of frustration on both sides.

Vantage is looking to shift that. It has rolled out a new MSP Invoicing feature that lets providers automate the full billing cycle - creating rules, allocating costs, and sending invoices - all within the same platform they already use to track cloud spend.

Automating a Longstanding Pain Point

The new tool allows MSPs to build billing rules, allocate costs, and generate invoices without leaving Vantage. Instead of juggling spreadsheets or third-party systems, providers can now produce invoices as PDFs with detailed usage breakdowns, customer metadata such as IBAN and VAT, and multi-currency support. Invoices can be reviewed, regenerated if necessary, and automatically sent to the right billing contacts. They can also be integrated into general ledger systems for financial reporting.

Ben Schaechter, co-founder and CEO of Vantage told ChannelE2E that “Invoices can be generated with detailed breakdowns of usage and charges, and then automatically distributed to customer billing contacts."

MSPs have been stuck with decades-old, expensive billing software that was never built for the complexity of modern cloud environments. "The pain points are clear: manual workflows, limited integrations, and minimal ongoing product development despite high costs," said Schaechter.

By consolidating billing with cloud cost management, MSPs get a simpler, faster way to ensure accuracy while freeing teams from repetitive back-office tasks.

Migration Momentum

Shifting away from legacy and outdated billing tools can seem daunting, but according to Schaechter, many providers are already making the leap. "We’re actively fielding inbound interest from MSPs as their contracts approach renewal. Some MSPs have migrated in as little as 30 days, though typical migration timelines are closer to 60 days to allow for thorough validation,” he explained.

That momentum isn’t limited to established firms. "We’re also seeing strong adoption from modern, startup MSPs sourcing their first set of FinOps tools,” Schaechter added. For these companies, starting on a modern platform from day one helps them avoid the operational debt that comes with legacy software.

Fit Within Existing Workflows

Billing is more than just generating an invoice - it has to line up with accounting systems, financial processes, and client expectations. Vantage has built its approach with that in mind.

“We work directly with partners and provide our account management and sales engineering teams - at no additional cost - to facilitate transitions from legacy systems,” said Schaechter. “These teams guide customers through the migration process, validating invoicing and billing accuracy, and confirming that the platform is fully optimized.”

Support doesn’t stop once migration is complete. Schaechter noted, “Once an MSP is onboarded, they’re supported by a dedicated team of customer success managers, also provided at no cost under contract. Our customer success managers are all Certified FinOps Practitioners and infrastructure experts who can assist with integrations into accounting systems and beyond.”

That level of ongoing guidance is meant to reduce the friction of switching platforms and ensure MSPs can get value quickly.

What’s Next in MSP FinOps

Invoice automation is just one step in a broader plan to expand FinOps capabilities for MSPs. "We’ve already launched features for re-rating, re-tiering, and reallocating financial commitments like Savings Plans and Reserved Instances,” said Schaechter.

"Next on the roadmap is expanding AI support. We recently added Model Context Protocol (MCP) support, enabling customers to interact with the Vantage platform via Large Language Models such as ChatGPT or Claude. Our plan is to extend MCP access to MSPs, allowing them to manage their Vantage platform through a chat interface. We also intend to roll out automated financial commitment management on a per-MSP basis, further increasing savings and boosting profitability.”

The roadmap signals a shift for MSPs—from just cutting down billing headaches to actively driving cost optimization and stronger margins with smarter FinOps automation.
