F5 to Acquire CalypsoAI, Expanding AI Security to the Inference Layer

F5 has announced plans to acquire CalypsoAI for $180 million. This signals how critical inference-layer security has become as enterprises roll out generative and agent-based AI. The push to adopt AI is moving faster than the guardrails meant to contain it, leaving organizations exposed to data leaks, unpredictable outputs, and mounting compliance pressure.

By bringing CalypsoAI into its portfolio, F5 is positioning itself to close those gaps and deliver the kind of protections enterprises can’t afford to overlook.

Lisa Citron, VP of Global Partner Ecosystem at F5 told ChannelE2E, “CalypsoAI’s model-agnostic AI security capabilities are a strong fit to bolster the AI security capabilities within the F5 ADSP. As we integrate CalypsoAI’s technology into the platform, our customers will be more equipped to deliver and secure every application, every API, and now every model, agent, and connected data set, across their hybrid and multicloud environments.”

How F5 Will Stand Apart

The AI trust and safety space is already crowded. Hyperscalers like Microsoft and Google are pushing their own guardrails, and startups are fighting for position. F5’s edge comes from pairing its long track record at the application layer with CalypsoAI’s inference security.

Citron said, “The AI attack surface changes daily, and this acquisition better positions F5 to help our customers stay ahead of it. From a competitive standpoint, it sets F5 apart in a couple of ways. First, with the addition of CalypsoAI’s technology, F5 is the only vendor capable of delivering a proactive, AI-focused security platform that protects across hybrid and multicloud environments.”

She emphasized that while most security vendors still center on the network - the who and where of traffic - AI threats live elsewhere. “F5 has decades of experience securing the application layer and CalypsoAI is a natural fit to help us fill the gaps legacy tools leave behind. As a result, we’ll deliver a unified, model-agnostic security solution that evolves as AI models and threats change.”

The model-agnostic approach matters. Enterprises don’t want security locked to one AI provider. They need governance that scales with the business and adapts to any model, cloud, or deployment. With CalypsoAI, F5 is setting itself up as one of the few players able to deliver that flexibility.

Preparing for Global AI Regulation

Even the regulatory environment is quickly shifting. For example, the EU AI Act is moving toward enforcement, and similar rules are likely to follow in other markets. Enterprises must demonstrate not just protection, but also auditability and consistent governance across environments.

Citron emphasized that compliance is baked into the integration plan.

“CalypsoAI’s solutions are built to secure both generative and agentic AI, and when combined with the F5 Application Delivery and Security Platform will deliver unified guardrails and governance to F5 customers. The solution will combine real-time protection, continuous adversarial testing, and centralized visibility to protect against data leakage and meet regulatory requirements."

Citron noted that this will let F5 customers move AI into production faster with consistent policies across models and clouds, apply threat protection that adapts as systems evolve, and gain audit-ready insight to meet GDPR and EU AI Act requirements without compromising user experience.

Strengthening the Partner Ecosystem

F5’s channel partners will be central to bringing these capabilities to market. The rollout will focus on enablement, giving partners the tools to sell CalypsoAI’s guardrails and build solutions tailored to enterprise needs.

“F5 is a channel-led business and we are already working closely with our channel partners on helping them tackle today’s toughest AI security challenges,” Citron said.

“The AI security market is in its early stages, and the acquisition of CalypsoAI firmly puts F5 in a leadership position in this emerging market. Once the transaction closes, the F5 team will actively build a robust enablement track within Partner Central, our partner portal, to help educate and enable our partners to leverage CalypsoAI as the technology is integrated into the F5 Application Delivery and Security Platform. This, in turn, will enable our partners to build solutions that help the enterprises they serve better protect critical data while delivering and securing every app, API, and AI model across any environment.”

F5’s move to acquire CalypsoAI makes one thing clear: inference-layer security has become a top priority for enterprises. Data leaks, unsafe outputs, and compliance failures are accelerating faster than legacy tools can handle. By folding CalypsoAI’s guardrails into its Application Delivery and Security Platform, F5 is positioning itself as a key partner for enterprises looking to deploy AI at scale without losing control of risk.
