Assured Data Protection Adds Zerto-Powered Disaster Recovery to Support VMware Transitions

Assured Data Protection has expanded its disaster recovery portfolio with a Zerto-powered managed service designed for organizations running VMware and mixed hypervisor environments. The launch comes as many enterprises reassess VMware strategy following Broadcom’s acquisition, balancing near-term contract realities with longer-term platform decisions. The new service focuses on aggressive recovery objectives while avoiding new forms of lock-in.

Assured says customer interest spans both immediate continuity needs and future flexibility.

Tony Giannini, Vice President of Global Innovation at Assured, explained to ChannelE2E, “In Assured's experience, the model that wins is delighting your partners and customers by delivering SLAs and SLOs while also providing predictable and consistent cost models.” He notes that Assured is expanding its DR options “to allow platform fluidity based on infrastructure and hypervisor choices,” recognizing that disruption and change across the technology landscape are constant.

Zerto delivery focused on cost clarity and operational simplicity

The Zerto-based service uses host-level replication to enable rapid failover without dependence on specific storage or hardware platforms. While Zerto technology is well established, Assured’s approach centers on simplifying how disaster recovery is priced, consumed, and operated.

“Cost control and predictability are Assured superpowers,” Giannini says. “The pricing model is persistent, thereby intuitive and easy for customers and partners to understand and consume.” He adds that customers achieve stronger resilience outcomes when they consume multiple services across Assured’s portfolio, rather than relying on a single recovery mechanism in isolation.

Application-tiered recovery instead of one-size-fits-all DR

Rather than pushing customers toward a single standardized disaster recovery model, Assured positions Zerto alongside its Rubrik-based and Nutanix-based DR services. This enables application-specific recovery strategies, where recovery speed, recovery objectives, and cost align with actual business impact.

“Flexibility to align RTOs and RPOs with desired TCO is a major attractor of customers and partners to Assured,” Giannini says. “Assured orchestrates multiple tools to deliver DR outcomes based on application tier criticality.” This approach allows organizations to reserve aggressive recovery targets for the workloads that truly require them, while applying more economical protection models elsewhere.

What this enables for MSPs and VMware customers in transition

For MSPs and partners supporting VMware customers through periods of transition, the service is designed to reduce operational complexity while preserving long-term choice. “Assured is honored to support customers with VMware DR outcomes over any period of time,” Giannini says, emphasizing that customers do not need to rush platform decisions to achieve reliable recovery.

He points to cross-hypervisor replication, abstraction from underlying hardware platforms, and workload-focused recovery as practical ways Assured simplifies disaster recovery delivery today. Looking ahead, Giannini notes that Assured’s innovation team stays closely engaged with its global customer and partner base to continuously evaluate and support emerging hypervisor alternatives.

The Zerto-powered disaster recovery service is available now from Assured Data Protection, offering VMware customers and partners a way to maintain strong recovery outcomes today while keeping infrastructure options open as strategies evolve.
