Commvault Hires Equinix, Veritas Channel Veterans; CEO Post Still Pending

Commvault has hired Rick Fairweather as VP of Americas Channels and Mark Fong as VP of Asia Pacific Channels and Alliances. The executives arrive amid Commvault’s efforts to transform its data protection business for the cloud era. The company also is still seeking a new CEO amid pressure from activist investors.

Fairweather oversees Commvault’s ecosystem of resellers and distributors throughout North and South America, the company said. He previously worked at Veritas as VP of the Americas Partner Organization. Prior to Veritas, Fairweather spent 22 years in various sales and channel leadership roles at Cisco.

Fong will head up Commvault’s ecosystem of resellers, distributors, and alliance partners throughout the Asia Pacific region, the company said. Fong’s previous experience was leading channel and alliance sales in the Asia Pacific and Japan regions for Equinix. Before that, he held leadership roles in channel and direct selling capacities in the region for Progress Software, Symantec, Oracle, and Microsoft.

Commvault back in September also hired Cisco Systems and HP veteran Wenceslao Lada as VP of worldwide alliances. Considering Lada’s title, he apparently succeeds Andy Vandeveld, a Veeam veteran who was Commvault’s VP of worldwide alliances and service providers from January through June 2018.

The new appointments come at a time of transition for Commvault. Even as it makes new hires and announces new end-to-end data protection services, the company continues to hunt for a CEO to succeed N. Robert Hammer amid intensifying competition from Veeam, Rubrik, and Cohesity, among other data protection companies.
