A. What’s Hot Today

1. M&A - Managed VoIP Services: Digitcom and Algo’s Interconnect Division are merging and also preparing to make more acquisitions, the Canadian IT service providers have confirmed. Financial terms were not disclosed.=

2. M&A - MSP and Web Developer: Atiba Software, a combination MSP and Web software developer, has acquired General Proximity, a custom web development and hosting service provider that supports health care and wellness customers.

3. Talent - Layoffs After Ransomware Attack: CyrusOne, a data center provider, is cutting 55 employees or about 12 percent of its workforce. The cuts come roughly one month after CyrusOne disclosed a ransomware attack that impacted its data centers and six managed services customers. CyrusOne did not disclose whether the layoffs were related to the cyberattack.

4. Softbank Investment Layoffs: Startups and unicorns backed by investment firm Softbank have cut more than 7,000 jobs over the past year, according to Business Insider estimates. Among the companies cutting jobs: Zume Pizza, Oyo, Getaround and WeWo. Critics say Softbank overvalued the companies at multiple funding stages, and perhaps foolishly emphasized growth over a path to profits.
