Sherweb Boosts its Security Strategy for MSPs to Help Them Better Serve Customers

In a dark, textured digital space a red padlock glows atop a small black cube, symbolizing security, protection, and privacy in the world of data and technology..

Sherweb, which for years has helped Managed Service Providers (MSPs) deliver cybersecurity services to businesses, is taking a more strategic approach aimed at helping MSPs expand their skills. Under the newly formalized strategy, the technology and service provider has broadened the curated portfolio of cybersecurity applications, tools, and services it offers to MSPs. The goal is to enhance their ability to detect and respond to threats in real time, according to the company.

Tightly coupled with expertise and guidance from Sherweb’s trained staff, the broadened strategy aims to provide the deeper knowledge MSPs need to build security programs tailored to the varied and unique requirements of the businesses they serve. Sherweb calls this a “guidance-first model.” The company said it currently works with about 8,000 MSPs that deliver customized, scalable security services to more than 100,000 businesses.

Coming Attraction: Sherweb’s New CyberMSP Community for MSP Collaboration

To support the initiative, Sherweb also unveiled its new CyberMSP Community, designed as an online network to give MSPs easier access to best practices, peer insights, and continuous support as threats evolve. The community, expected to open for membership in the coming weeks, was created to help MSPs grow their cybersecurity practices through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and expert guidance, according to the company.

“We have always taken a guided approach with the 8,000+ MSPs we work with, curating products for our solutions portfolio, providing personalized, actionable plans informed by industry standards, and hosting regular training sessions and events,” Roddy Bergeron, cybersecurity technical fellow at Sherweb, told ChannelE2E.

“When it comes to cybersecurity, we know MSPs are on the front lines for their customers. They are under growing pressure to deliver strong security services, but as threats become more frequent and sophisticated, it is harder to ensure they have the right technology in place and a program that can scale with them and their clients.”

That is where the broadened framework comes in, said Bergeron. “We conduct assessments to pinpoint gaps, identify the right security tools for their needs, and foster ongoing strategy, advice, and support through our in-house experts and the CyberMSP community of MSP peers.”

The new strategy is designed to help MSPs whether they are seasoned security experts or still building their capabilities, Bergeron added.

“Every MSP has a different level of cybersecurity expertise, and since it is so critical for their customers, they want to ensure they are doing it right,” he said. “While they could reactively onboard tools as new threats emerge, this often leads to tool overload and added complexity, which can increase risk. MSPs need more than just the tools - they need real guidance to address the sophisticated threats that seem to be evolving faster every day.”

Under the program, Sherweb will perform security readiness assessments with MSPs to evaluate the tools they are using, who their customers are, and their overall cybersecurity goals. From there, Sherweb helps them build a strategy using the curated offerings in its portfolio. Once deployed, Sherweb’s in-house security experts provide ongoing coaching and strategic check-ins to help MSPs grow their skills.

Most of the products are cloud-based, including cloud-native tools and SaaS services.

Curated Cybersecurity Services for MSPs: A Smart and Flexible Approach, Analysts Say

Shelly Kramer, principal analyst with Kramer & Co., told ChannelE2E that she is impressed with Sherweb’s enhanced strategy.

“The curated solutions are designed to do some of the heavy lifting for MSPs while also reducing complexity, which remains a significant challenge across the board,” said Kramer. “The tailored assessments, evaluations, and recommendations are likewise attractive and clearly designed to best serve Sherweb's MSP partner community. And the focus on building a community that facilitates knowledge sharing, collaboration, and connection at a time when the industry is evolving at an incredibly rapid pace is another smart move by Sherweb.”

Rob Enderle, principal analyst with Enderle Group, agreed. “It is a good idea because MSPs are not always experts at the things they should know,” he said. “Security requires a great deal of technical knowledge on both the nature of current threats and the tools best suited to mitigate them. This offering appears to provide targeted help for MSPs that need this knowledge, and it should be very helpful for both those MSPs and their customers.”
