Managing firewalls across multiple customer locations can become a time-consuming task for MSPs and integrators, particularly when each device requires separate monitoring and troubleshooting. Island, a router and firewall brand developed by San Antonio-based PerfTech, is addressing that challenge with the release of firmware version 4.1. The update introduces OceanView, a centralized dashboard that gives technicians visibility into network health, device activity and security status across multiple Island firewalls.
OceanView lets administrators sort devices by model, group or status, customize dashboard views and investigate alerts without checking each firewall individually. Device information refreshes every minute, while internet connectivity and interface state changes appear immediately. The update also introduces Cross Connect, a patent-pending feature that enables specific devices or groups to communicate across separate LANs and VLANs without opening access to an entire network segment. For example, security cameras can communicate with a recorder on another network while unrelated devices remain isolated. Configuration uses device and group names rather than requiring technicians to manage complex IP-based routing rules.
For MSPs and integrators, the combination of centralized monitoring and simplified network segmentation could reduce administrative overhead while helping preserve customer security. OceanView offers a way to identify connectivity problems across distributed environments, while Cross Connect addresses situations where legitimate business devices need to communicate across otherwise isolated networks. Both capabilities are included in the newly available firmware update, along with approximately three dozen additional fixes and enhancements. Providers managing multiple customer sites can evaluate the release as a way to streamline troubleshooting and maintain more consistent network policies.
