The growing commercialization of the space industry is creating new opportunities for MSPs and IT resellers to provide familiar technology services to an emerging customer base. Through its new Space Tech Initiative, TD SYNNEX is helping channel partners enter a market historically dominated by government contractors and large systems integrators. As ChannelPro reports, space technology companies need more than specialized engineering expertise. They also require reliable networks, workstations, storage, cybersecurity and IT infrastructure management.
"Now, as it becomes more commercialized, you're going to have a huge opportunity for traditional IT resellers to participate," said Gary Palenbaum, TD SYNNEX executive vice president of revenue and customer success. The distributor sees particular demand among space technology manufacturers and other commercial businesses that may lack mature IT operations. Eddie Franklin, TD SYNNEX senior vice president of vertical markets, identified wireless networking, desktop management, infrastructure assessments and procurement optimization as potential entry points. The initiative includes industry education through Nova Space Inc., market intelligence and partnerships designed to help providers understand the industry's specialized requirements.
For MSPs, the opportunity is to apply existing managed services capabilities to a new vertical without reinventing their business models. TD SYNNEX identified Southern California, Florida and Colorado Springs among the regions worth exploring because of their concentrations of space industry activity. Providers can begin by identifying local space technology companies, assessing their commercial IT environments and demonstrating how managed infrastructure, security and procurement services can reduce operational costs. As Franklin explained, "We're not advocating that the channel needs to reinvent the skill set." Instead, MSPs need enough industry knowledge to connect their existing expertise to the business requirements of space technology customers.
