This week’s news points to the same underlying shift: buyers want more control and fewer assumptions. These updates all point in the same direction: control is now a buying priority. AWS is making its European Sovereign Cloud generally available reflects how EU customers now see data residency and operational control as core requirements, not special cases, a trend also being pushed by IBM, SAP, Microsoft, and Google. Veeam bringing Object First in-house shows a similar move toward simpler, more tightly integrated options while still keeping customer choice intact. Google Cloud’s new partner model makes expectations clearer by rewarding delivery and results over participation. And CrowdStrike’s planned acquisition of Seraphic Security highlights where security focus is shifting next, into the browser, where most work and AI activity now happens.
This Week's Tech, Channel, and MSP News
Amazon Web Services and sovereign cloud now generally available:
AWS has made its European Sovereign Cloud generally available, reflecting how data control is becoming central to cloud buying decisions. For many EU customers, data residency and operational control are no longer edge concerns. AWS is positioning this as a fully EU-based cloud with isolated regions, local identity controls, and separate billing. It is also a competitive move. IBM, SAP, Microsoft, and Google are all pushing similar models. The signal from buyers is clear: sovereignty is now shaping cloud strategy.
Veeam acquires Object First: Veeam brought Object First in-house this week, turning a long-time partner into part of the company. Object First builds Ootbi, an immutable backup appliance designed specifically for Veeam environments and aimed at simple protection against ransomware and data tampering. The acquisition gives Veeam a ready-made on-prem option alongside its cloud offerings. Veeam says it remains software-first and partner-first, leaving customers free to choose between bundled hardware or an open hardware model.
Google Cloud partner changes come into effect: Google Cloud has replaced its Partner Advantage program with a new Partner Network focused on outcomes. The new model introduces revised tiers, broader competencies across AI, data, security, and industry use cases, and centralized tools to track readiness and certifications. The shift is straightforward: partners are rewarded less for showing up and more for delivering measurable customer results, especially around AI.
CrowdStrike acquires Seraphic Security:
CrowdStrike agreed to acquire Seraphic Security to add browser-level protection to its Falcon platform. The deal, reported at roughly $400–420 million, brings in technology that secures activity inside the browser, where most work and AI usage now happens. CrowdStrike plans to link Seraphic’s in-session browser controls with its endpoint and identity data to extend visibility from device to browser to cloud.
