Cyderes CEO sounds alarm over widening AI security budget gap

Data cybersecurity warning alert with ai monitoring system showing file risk detection and cyber threat notification for data protection system control and information security technology

Cyderes CEO Chris Schueler voiced significant concerns regarding the current level of corporate investment in AI security. As reported by CRN, he noted that many chief information security officers (CISOs) are not receiving additional budgets to adequately secure the adoption of AI and agentic technologies.

Schueler stated in a recent podcast that not a single CISO he has spoken with has reported receiving incremental funding specifically for AI security. This lack of dedicated budget is seen as a major risk, especially as companies increasingly leverage AI for security operations. While Schueler anticipates a renaissance in security operations driven by AI in the next 24 months, he highlighted that many organizations are being asked to fund necessary AI security protections from existing budgets. He suggested that a more responsible approach would involve allocating a portion of every significant AI investment towards implementing essential controls and guardrails. The current trend appears to prioritize AI investment for business improvements without a commensurate focus on securing intellectual property and sensitive data, potentially necessitating a major AI-related breach to prompt adequate funding.
