10. New Infosys Chairman: Infosys Co-founder Nandan Nilekani was named chairman late Thursday. The big priority: Finding a new CEO to succeed Vishal Sikka, who resigned last Friday. Nilekani's arrival as chairman could stabilize the company's stock, which declined amid Sikka's surprise resignation last week.
9. VMware Cloud for Amazon AWS: It's the world's worst kept technology secret. VMware will very likely launch its VMware Cloud for Amazon AWS during the VMworld Conference next week. Our spin: VMware and partners will generate some upside revenues from the new cloud offering. But let's not position it as the second coming of vSphere, the original iPhone or Windows 95's launch...
8. VMware Momentum: VMware, as expected, delivered stronger-than-originally-expected financial results for its fiscal Q2 2018 quarter. The official results surfaced yesterday, but VMware earlier this month told Wall Street that the quarter was performing very well. Among the hot spots: The company's NSX and vSAN offerings continue to catch on for network- and storage-centric virtualization.
7. Splunk Financials: Splunk's revenues were $280 million in Q2 2018, up 32 percent from fiscal Q2 2017. During the quarter, Splunk launched a new partner portal to promote joint business opportunities with resellers, MSPs and service providers. 6. Pure Names Cisco Veteran CEO: Pure Storage has hired Cisco veteran Charles Giancarlo as CEO. He succeeds Scott Dietzen who is stepping down from his role as CEO and has been appointed chairman. Giancarlo was once considered a potential successor to former Cisco CEO John Chambers. Pure appears to have momentum. Revenues were $224.5 million in Q2 2017, up 38 percent from Q2 2016, the company announced yesterday.
5. Webroot Momentum: Webroot added more than 3,800 MSPs to its partner base in its fiscal year ended June 30, 2017. The security company's MSP base now exceeded 9,400 partners. Webroot has generated 14 consecutive quarters of double-digit company and business segment growth. Overall, Webroot's year-over-year business segment bookings for 2017 grew 35 percent, the company says. Actual revenues and profits remain undisclosed.
4. Brexit Technology Warning: Britain risks damaging crucial parts of its technology industry unless it can secure an unprecedented deal with the European Union on data exchange after Brexit, according to a government paper published Thursday, Bloomberg reported.
3. Chrome Enterprise & Managed Services: Google has introduced an enterprise edition of its Chrome OS. The offering essentially wraps managed services and security services around Chromebooks and other devices that run the operating system. Chrome Enterprise costs $50 per device per year. We're checking to see if Google Cloud Platform partners like Itopia see an opportunity to align with the new offering...
2. Managed Private Cloud Services: CenturyLink has enhanced DCC (Dedicated Cloud Compute) Foundation, a fully private service based on VMware Cloud Foundation and HPE ProLiant servers. The update features a converged, software-defined data center model to help businesses automate labor-intensive task, the company says.
