VMware, Amazon Eero Partner to Improve Home WiFi Network Security


VMware and Eero, an Amazon company, are partnering to improve home WiFi networks and associated security. The move, which involves VMware SASE (secure access service edge) technology, may allow MSPs and IT administrators to more effectively manage and safeguard remote networks and home systems for customers.

Amazon acquired Eero in 2019 to jump into the home mesh WiFi networking market vs. Google NEST WiFi and other consumer-focused networking gear. But the COVID-19 pandemic further blended the business and consumer worlds -- prompting some MSPs to extend business-class systems into customer home networks.

The VMware-Eero partnership further reflects that reality. The partnership pairs Eero 6 series mesh WiFi systems with VMware SASE Work from Home solutions, and will be delivered by strategic channel partners, the companies said.

VMware SASE for Home, Remote Network Security

VMware SASE is a cloud-hosted solution designed to improve performance and security of user traffic between the Eero home WiFi network and public cloud, SaaS cloud and on-premises data centers.

IT teams and MSPs can use VMware SASE to configure networking and security policies and push them to all Eero WiFi remote sites and monitor actual user experience when accessing cloud applications. The solution compares performance benchmarks between different sites and identifies opportunities for improvement as well as proactive remediation, VMware indicated.

VMware and Amazon have an existing partnership in the enterprise cloud market. Indeed, VMware Cloud on AWS has been a major growth opportunity for both businesses, allowing MSPs and customers to extend on-premises VMware workloads out to AWS.

VMware Spins Off From Dell Technologies

Meanwhile, tTe Eero partnership surfaces just as VMware completes its long-planned spinoff from Dell Technologies. While Dell offers business-class network switches, the PC giant mostly resells third-party home networking gear.
