VMware has acquired AetherPal, which develops IT support software that allows VARs and MSPs to remotely view, control, troubleshoot, and fix devices and applications, the companies confirmed today.
The AetherPal Mobile Support platform includes two core offerings:
- Remote Support, the remote control and troubleshooting offering for enterprises and partners.
- GuideMe. which offers mobile training for enterprise apps.
As of mid-2018, AetherPal's Mobile Support software was deployed on more than 45 million mobile devices.
VMware: Remote Control Is Strategic
The remote IT support software market is mature and saturated with competitors. But VMware's decision to acquire AetherPal is an important one.
VMware has resold AetherPal’s Remote Support solution since 2017 as an add-on to VMware Workspace ONE under the name Workspace ONE Advanced Remote Management. Acquiring the AetherPal code ensures that VMware now controls its own remote support destiny for customers and partners.
Moreover, the software could be a potential option for VMware's growing base of MSP partners. And we'll be watching to see if or how VMware shareholder Dell Technologies promotes AetherPal for remote support.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
