Veeam Data Platform v13 Gets Expanded Hypervisor Support, Smarter Intelligence

Data backup, recovery, and resilience vendor Veeam has updated its latest Veeam Data Platform v13 release with a broad array of feature improvements, including wider hypervisor support, proactive threat scanning capabilities, and easier-to-use intelligence capabilities.

The new features aim to boost the capabilities of Veeam Data Platform v13 to help enterprise customers address growing security threats being placed on business IT by cybercriminals leveraging the immense power of AI in their latest cyberattacks, according to the company.

To fight these increasing threats, Veeam has now built its Recon Scanner 3.0 directly into the Veeam Data Platform v13 to provide improved real-time operational threat visibility for organizations and is also providing new integrations with Veeam ONE Threat Center to generate real-time analytics and threat visualization through security dashboards.

In addition, Veeam Data Platform v13’s expanded hypervisor capabilities now include immediate support for Scale Computing HyperCore. More platforms will be added in the future, including HPE Morpheus VM Essentials, Citrix XenServer, and XCP-ng.

Other feature improvements include a new consolidated triage inbox that allows organizations to see, sort, and manage all suspicious activity in one place while providing severity ratings and behavioral insights, as well as new instant recovery to Microsoft Azure capabilities that enable rapid recovery of critical workloads in a secure cleanroom environment to validate recoverability and minimize downtime.

Additional feature improvements are scheduled for release in 2026, including OpenShift virtualization support, a universal hypervisor integration API, a high-availability Veeam Software Appliance, and a redesigned, modern web console.

“This release is a big step forward for MSPs and Veeam Cloud & Service Providers (VCSPs),” Rick Vanover, the vice president of product strategy at Veeam, told ChannelE2E. “Universal CDP (Continuous Data Protection) means you can keep your customers’ most critical systems protected around the clock. Plus, we have made deployment easier and more secure with the cloud gateway role available on both the Veeam Infrastructure Appliance and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. That translates to lower operational costs and less security risk with lower TCO, all things MSPs care about.”

The latest Veeam Data Platform v13 release includes more than 60 updates and new features, said Vanover, but to him the three biggest additions are improved and smarter Veeam Intelligence capabilities, which provide advanced AI-driven guidance from Azure OpenAI; the addition of the latest Recon Scanner 3.0 for better threat visibility and resilience; and expanded hypervisor support, which helps business users adapt to changes in the hypervisor market.

Many of the new features are in response to requests and feedback from customers, according to Vanover.

“We have always listened closely to our partners - they are part of Veeam’s DNA,” he said. “The Veeam Software Appliance is really a direct result of that ongoing feedback. I remember some great conversations back in 2022 where ideas were floated, and we suggested a path that was validated by some of our top partners. We have worked together to make this happen. It has been a collaborative journey, and now we are bringing those ideas to market. Our partners have been waiting for this, and we are excited to deliver.”

The Veeam Software Appliance is now generally available and is built to ease deployment and configuration to help partners get their customers up and running on Veeam platforms more quickly.

Veeam Data Platform v13 Updates Will Help MSPs, MSSPs: Analyst

Shelly Kramer, principal analyst and founder of Kramer & Co., told ChannelE2E that the new Veeam updates will create substantial security business opportunities for service providers and channel partners.

“This premium security capability will allow MSPs and MSSPs to easily differentiate their offerings by providing built-in threat detection, behavioral analytics, and forensic intel that previously required the use of separate security tools,” said Kramer.

“That is very attractive. The ease of deployment is also very appealing, as are the self-updating capabilities. Anything that takes less time and effort and also helps reduce ongoing operational overhead for MSPs and MSSPs, especially when managing multiple client environments, gets a big thumbs up.”

In addition, Veeam’s multi-layered security stack enhancements are important new benefits for partners and customers, she said. “This allows MSPs and MSSPs to leverage integrated capabilities, including immutable backups by default and AI-powered malware analysis. The deep integrations with CrowdStrike, Palo Alto, Splunk, and ServiceNow allow them to position Veeam as a core component of the security stack rather than simply a backup solution.”
