Microsoft’s new Surface PCs promise 95% faster on-device AI

Microsoft is expanding its Surface hardware lineup with new Pro and Laptop devices, alongside a Surface Mouse, all powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Plus processors. According to reporting by CRN, the new devices are designed to enhance performance, battery efficiency, and on-device AI capabilities, aiming to bring Microsoft's software ecosystem to life in a more personal and responsive way.

Microsoft unveiled the new 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop, featuring Snapdragon X2 Plus processors, set for release on October 13. These devices boast up to 18 percent more efficient battery performance, 60 percent faster graphics, and 95 percent faster on-device AI compared to previous models. The Pro starts at $1,149.99 and the Laptop at $1,199, with both available through the Surface for Business program. They incorporate secured-core PC safeguards, including Microsoft's Pluton security processor and TPM 2.0. The Surface Pro offers a portable design with pen features and an optional 5G configuration, while the Surface Laptop emphasizes extended battery life. Additionally, a new Surface Mouse with haptic feedback and a customizable Copilot button will be available. These updates align with Microsoft's strategy to integrate AI capabilities more deeply into its hardware and software offerings, enhancing productivity and user experience for both consumers and commercial clients.
