MetTel has landed a $54 million contract to upgrade the U.S. Veterans Administration’s legacy landline systems. The goal: replace over 15,000 aging phone lines across nearly 1,900 VA facilities with a modern, managed voice solution. The work is being done under the GSA’s Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions contract, a government-wide vehicle for telecom modernization. This isn’t just about replacing phones. The project includes critical infrastructure - lines connected to elevators, fire alarms, security systems, emergency call boxes, and fax machines. MetTel’s solution swaps out the old circuit-switched signals with IP-based voice, giving the VA more reliable service, better monitoring, and cost savings, without needing to replace legacy hardware.MetTel’s “POTS Transformation” offering includes built-in failover, port-level diagnostics, 24/7 monitoring, and detailed reporting. It’s built on the DataRemote “POTS in a Box” platform and backed by a network of data centers, carriers, and public safety certifications. The managed voice solution is already recognized by organizations like FDNY and Cal Fire for compliance in emergency services environments. For the VA, the payoff is clearer visibility and more resilient voice infrastructure, especially in mission-critical settings. For MetTel, it’s another step into the federal space with a large-scale, infrastructure-focused contract that plays to its strengths in legacy system modernization and managed telecom services.
