Katalyst acquires Layer27 in first deal since e4n partnership

Katalyst has acquired Layer27, a Durham, North Carolina-based managed services and cybersecurity provider with a focus on Microsoft technologies, healthcare, and other regulated industries. The deal expands Katalyst’s presence in the Research Triangle and adds Layer27’s engineering team, cloud expertise, and 24/7 security operations capabilities.

Layer27’s employees will join Katalyst, while customers will continue working with their existing service teams. Katalyst plans to integrate Layer27’s technology stack, vendor relationships, and service delivery operations over the coming weeks. The companies said maintaining service continuity will remain the priority during the transition.

The transaction is Katalyst’s first tuck-in acquisition since the company partnered with e4n in May 2026. E4n is using Katalyst as its first U.S. platform company as it builds a broader managed services and cybersecurity business focused on midmarket customers. Its strategy combines organic growth with acquisitions that add regional reach, technical talent and specialized services.

For Katalyst, Layer27 adds a stronger Microsoft practice and more experience supporting customers with security, compliance and cloud requirements. The acquisition also gives e4n an early test of its platform model as it looks to bring regional MSPs together around shared operations, AI adoption and acquisition support while keeping local customer relationships in place.
