IBM has acquired data analytics and sustainability software company Envizi. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

This is technology M&A deal number 48 that ChannelE2E has covered so far in 2022.

IBM Acquires Envizi: Deal Details

Envizi, based in Sydney, Australia, has 69 employees listed on LinkedIn. Envizi investors included  Accel-KKR. Key channel partners and global systems integrators aligned with Envizi include Accenture, Blackstone Energy Services, EcoAct, Nube iO and multiple energy and real estate management companies.

Envizi's software allows partners and customers to focus on environmental performance management, IBM indicated. The deal aligns with with such products and services as IBM Maximo asset management solutions, IBM Sterling supply chain solutions and the IBM Environmental Intelligence Suite, the buyer said.

IBM leverages Envizi's software to help track the company's own goals in renewable electricity procurement and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction.

IBM Buys Energy Sustainability Company: Executive Perspectives

In a prepared statement about the Envizi deal, Kareem Yusuf, general manager of IBM AI Applications, said:

"To drive real progress toward sustainability, companies need the ability to transform data into predictive insights that help them make more intelligent, actionable decisions every day. Envizi's software provides companies with a single source of truth for analyzing and understanding emissions data across the full landscape of their business operations and dramatically accelerates IBM's growing arsenal of AI technologies for helping businesses create more sustainable operations and supply chains."

Added David Solsky, CEO and co-founder of Envizi:

"As a leader and innovator in AI for business, IBM has decades of experience helping organizations around the world harness the power of their data and act on it. IBM's global reach, depth of resources and breadth of expertise will help us to scale at an unprecedented pace. As part of IBM, we feel more confident than ever that we can achieve our goal of providing clients and partners with the world class tools they need to reduce their operational impacts and optimize for the low carbon future."

IBM Acquisitions and Exits

IBM has acquired more than 20 companies since Arvind Krishna became the company's CEO. IBM’s other recent acquisitions include Nordcloud, SXiQ, Taos, and BoxBoat. Those deals essentially position IBM Consulting against Accenture and perhaps even Kyndryl, the recent managed infrastructure services spin-off from IBM.

In addition to the Kyndryl spin-off, IBM has been selling off some assets. For instance, Harris acquired IBM's i2 intelligence analysis product portfolio in January 2022. Next up, IBM may be looking to sell its struggling Watson Health division. The asking price for the money-losing business reportedly is $1 billion.
