Syncro, CyberDrain Simplify Microsoft 365 Security Assessments for MSPs

Five security mistakes

Microsoft 365 is the operational core for most SMBs, yet many MSPs still don't have a clear, consistent view of a prospect’s tenant security posture. Security conversations often begin with assumptions or generic advice, rather than evidence. Syncro and CyberDrain are targeting that gap directly with Snapshot, a free Microsoft 365 security assessment designed to help MSPs quickly identify risks, establish credibility, and move conversations forward.

Snapshot is intentionally narrow in scope and practical in execution. It is built to answer the questions MSPs get asked most often: Are we exposed? Where are we weak? And what should be fixed first?

Moving Assessments From Guesswork to Proof

For many MSPs, Microsoft 365 security assessments are still inconsistent and time-consuming. Scripts change. Reports vary by engineer. The output is often too technical for non-IT decision-makers, which slows down sales conversations instead of advancing them.

Rich Dean, senior director of product management at Syncro, told ChannelE2E, “Fewer than one in four MSPs have a consistent, standardized way to assess a prospect’s Microsoft 365 security posture before a sale,” said “Most still rely on manual scripts or ad-hoc reporting.”

Snapshot was designed specifically to remove those blockers. Instead of requiring setup, onboarding, or tool sprawl, it runs as a web-based assessment that completes in minutes and delivers results instantly.

“Syncro Snapshot changes that with a frictionless, streamlined web-based assessment that runs in minutes and requires no sign-ups, no credential storage, and no data persistence,” Dean said.

What sets Snapshot apart is less about what it checks and more about how it frames the outcome. It looks for the issues most likely to matter in a sales or presales conversation, then packages them in a way that supports decision-making. “The tool instantly surfaces high-impact risks, such as missing MFA, risky mailbox forwarding rules, and excessive Global Admins, and produces an executive-ready PDF report MSPs can share directly with prospects,” Dean said.

That shift from raw findings to structured insight is critical. “This transforms ‘trust me’ conversations into evidence-based sales discussions, clearly demonstrating both risk exposure and the tangible value of managed security services,” he added.

Why the Syncro-CyberDrain Combination Works

Snapshot also reflects a deliberate blend of strengths between Syncro and CyberDrain, shaped by how MSPs actually operate day to day. “Just like all collaborative efforts, new perspectives, new ideas, and new sensibilities emerge,” Dean said. “And when you combine imagineers from two MSP-focused organizations - Syncro and CyberDrain - you get something that truly advances what either could deliver alone.”

From Syncro’s side, the emphasis has always been on simplifying how MSPs manage and support customer environments at scale.

“Syncro brings deep expertise in unifying RMM, PSA, and Microsoft 365 management into a single, purpose-built platform for MSPs, simplifying how providers secure, monitor, and support client environments,” Dean said.

CyberDrain’s contribution comes from deep operational experience with Microsoft tenants across thousands of real MSP environments. “CyberDrain, through its CIPP framework, brings unmatched Microsoft 365 automation depth and security insight born directly from the MSP trenches,” he added.

Snapshot sits at the intersection of those two perspectives.

“Together, this partnership delivers a free, frictionless Microsoft 365 Security Snapshot that fuses Syncro’s platform intelligence and sales enablement DNA with CyberDrain’s technical precision and automation experience,” Dean said. “The result is a tool built specifically for MSPs, one that helps them prove value faster, identify risk instantly, and open the door to managed security opportunities across their Microsoft 365 customers.”

Security Assessment Without the Trust Tax

One of the biggest barriers to early-stage security assessments is data handling. Prospects are understandably cautious about granting access or onboarding into new platforms before a contract is signed. Snapshot was built with that reality in mind.

“Syncro Snapshot was built with privacy as our number one priority,” Dean said. “We know prospecting new customers requires tools that provide meaningful assessments without forcing clients to onboard into another SaaS platform before they’ve even purchased services.”

Instead of persisting data or creating tenant footprints, Snapshot runs entirely in a temporary session.

“The Snapshot runs entirely in-memory during a single-user session, no sign-up, no credential storage, and no data persistence of any kind,” Dean said.

Once the scan is complete, everything is cleared. “The only output is an executive-ready report that the MSP downloads locally; nothing is stored, transmitted, or shared with Syncro or CyberDrain.”

That model changes the tone of the conversation with prospects. “This frictionless, privacy-by-design approach builds instant trust between MSPs and prospects, allowing a professional-grade security evaluation without any compromise to confidentiality or control,” Dean said.

A Practical First Step, Not Another Tool to Manage

Snapshot is positioned as an on-ramp, not an endpoint. For MSPs, the biggest value comes from how easily it fits into existing workflows.

“The Syncro Snapshot provides a fast, repeatable, and actionable Microsoft 365 security audit that reduces what used to take hours or even days to just minutes,” Dean said.

The assessment highlights issues MSPs are already well-equipped to fix, such as MFA gaps, admin sprawl, and configuration drift, and frames them in business-ready terms.

“It displays findings in a clean, interactive dashboard and generates a customizable, executive-ready report that MSPs can download and share instantly,” Dean said.

That efficiency shifts where MSPs spend their time.

“That means less time gathering data and more time showing value, building trust, and converting prospects into managed clients,” he said. “Over time, it becomes a repeatable first step in every MSP’s sales and onboarding process, serving as proof of expertise and a foundation for new service opportunities.”

Redefining What Success Looks Like

Syncro is not measuring Snapshot purely by download counts or tool usage. "If this helps even one MSP get a new customer or sell a new service, then Syncro and CyberDrain have done their job,” Dean said.

The longer-term goal is broader adoption at a community level. “We’ll measure success by how many MSPs engage with it, not just how many run it, but how often it becomes part of the community’s everyday conversations,” he said. “When MSPs start asking each other, ‘Did you run a Snapshot yet?’ that’s when we’ll know it’s working.”

For Syncro, success ultimately means empowerment. “Our goal isn’t simply adoption metrics; it’s empowerment and connection,” Dean said. “We want the Syncro Snapshot to become a shared language among MSPs, a quick and trusted way to prove risk, demonstrate expertise, and open new client opportunities. If that happens, the numbers will follow naturally.”
