Global IT services and logistics vendor Sycomp is partnering with Apptio’s Cloudability FinOps platform to deliver new cloud financial management tools to users of Sycomp’s Intelligent Cloud+ services.

The Cloudability partnership aims to provide Sycomp customers with deeper insights into their cloud investments, while helping to optimize costs and deliver broader workload and application visibility, according to the company. Other new features include multi-cloud management and normalization, spend tracking and forecasting, and native Kubernetes cost-allocation capabilities.

Cloudability, which helps FinOps teams manage and optimize multi-cloud, AI, and Kubernetes spending, provides detailed analytics and recommendations to help businesses better manage cloud expenditures. Apptio, the maker of Cloudability, is an IBM company.

In its announcement, Sycomp also unveiled new Intelligent Observability+ services that provide secure monitoring and workload visibility across dynamic cloud environments, supporting Cloudability as well as products from other vendors.

“Sycomp's new cloud services and program enhancements, including new FinOps capabilities from Apptio, offer our customers a guided and comprehensive view of their cloud investments while providing secure monitoring and greater workload visibility,” Lauren Ridzon, global director of cloud solutions and sales at Sycomp, told ChannelE2E. Ridzon said the new integrations are based on customer feedback and market needs.

The Sycomp Intelligent Cloud+ suite includes managed and professional services such as assessments, migration planning, governance, and compliance for workloads running on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. The Sycomp Intelligent Observability+ platform offers a unified view across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises infrastructure, with system health, performance, and utilization data, as well as detailed records of events and activities.

Cloud and Hybrid Observability Are Critical: Analyst

Rob Enderle, principal analyst at Enderle Group, told ChannelE2E that Sycomp’s partnership with Cloudability is well-timed to deliver more system insight as businesses continue to expand cloud usage and deployments.

“This concept of observability is critical to managing a cloud or hybrid cloud infrastructure,” said Enderle. “If you do not have comprehensive oversight across all of an organization’s cloud efforts, you cannot effectively analyze usage to optimize costs or ensure the right tools are being used. Both are critical when managing an increasingly complex digital infrastructure.”

Enderle said he was surprised that Sycomp’s announcement does not include IBM Cloud as one of the cloud service providers supported under the Apptio Cloudability partnership.

“Given they are partnering with Apptio, an IBM company, they do not include IBM Cloud, which remains the most secure, as one of the cloud services they integrate with as part of this FinOps focus,” said Enderle. “Financial institutions have typically been the most security-oriented and the most likely to use IBM Cloud solutions.”

Overall, Enderle said the new partnership and feature capabilities are “a valuable addition to Sycomp’s portfolio and should be well received by customers. Cloud usage is expensive and often lacks the level of visibility or control businesses need to ensure services are used appropriately and cost-effectively.”
