What the MAICPP Means for Direct and Indirect CSPs
The new rules don’t affect every partner equally. Direct CSPs face the steepest climb, with tougher revenue targets, more complex compliance standards, and the requirement to hold a Solution Partner designation to stay eligible for cashback and incentives. Indirect CSPs have fewer requirements but must still achieve 25 Partner Capability Score (PCS) points through sales or certifications. These updates add operational complexity across the board. Instead of focusing exclusively on customers and service delivery, MSPs are being asked to divert energy into meeting shifting program standards.Alexandre Laflamme, Programs and Sales Incentives Manager at Sherweb, told ChannelE2E that the company is tailoring its approach to each group:“Our top priority is getting as much information out about Microsoft’s new requirements as possible. The most affected will be Direct CSPs who haven’t prepared for the changes and Indirect CSPs who may have given up on qualifying for cashbacks altogether.”
“The upcoming FY26 and FY27 changes will make it increasingly difficult to justify staying Direct. The gaps in margins between Direct and Indirect have all but disappeared while the costs and time required to keep up with evolving changes have only increased. We’re ensuring these partners understand exactly what it takes to stay Direct—and what they may gain by shifting.”
“Because cashback participation is no longer tied to a specific partner status with an annual buy-in, the question of ‘is this worth it?’ has become a clear ‘yes.’ Our role is to make sure Indirect partners are properly configured and compliant so they can start benefitting from these changes on October 1.”
Reducing Risk Through Guided Support
While the program itself is meant to drive quality and alignment with Microsoft’s priorities, the operational burden it creates is a real risk for MSPs. Many already struggle to balance customer needs, compliance obligations, and day-to-day security. Now, the added complexity of MAICPP could stretch them even thinner.Laflamme underscored the risk of missteps:“These new CSP changes introduce many new operational processes and evolving requirements that can make it difficult for MSPs to feel confident that they’re checking every box. Today, finding accurate information is harder than ever, and even well-intentioned partners can fall into a rabbit hole of outdated or conflicting information and feel lost and confused. Missing a step can leave MSPs ineligible for incentives and rewards and impact their bottom line as margins shrink and business growth slows.”
“We’re working with our 8,000+ MSPs to navigate these updates step by step to maintain partner eligibility and maximize Microsoft incentives, by helping them build Partner Capability Scores, complete required skilling or certifications, and stay compliant. We ensure MSPs can understand and navigate the updates confidently - without them having to do all the background work - so they can keep their focus where it matters most: serving their clients and growing their business.”
“Our Accelerate Microsoft program is open to MSPs at all levels - including those with minimal prior engagement with Sherweb - so they can access expert Microsoft guidance as program requirements evolve.”
Building Long-Term Value
For MSPs, the immediate concern is eligibility for incentives. But Sherweb is also helping partners see beyond short-term requirements. The company positions Microsoft’s evolving ecosystem as an opportunity to grow recurring services and strengthen margins in the long run.“Microsoft's ecosystem is vast, so we’re able to help MSPs use these evolving changes as opportunities to grow and build stronger recurring revenue streams. By listening to partners explain their goals and ambition, we can pinpoint the appropriate designations or campaigns to fuel results. Working directly with our Sherweb experts, MSPs can surface the Microsoft offerings that fill a glaring service gap or create a new way to support customers.”
“Our conversations are always about the long term. All of the recommendations that we make fix immediate issues, and also help to build the foundation for success in the years ahead.”
Microsoft’s transition from CSP to MAICPP is rewriting the rules of partner engagement. For MSPs, the stakes are high: miss a requirement, and incentives disappear; stay ahead of the curve, and new growth paths open up.
Sherweb is positioning itself as the bridge between Microsoft’s evolving program and the MSP community. With direct guidance, compliance support, and long-term planning, the company is turning a complex transition into a chance for partners to stabilize margins and strengthen recurring revenue models.
