OpenMSP Launches to Help MSPs Cut Costs with Open-Source Tools and AI Insights

Most MSPs are paying too much for software they don’t fully use. OpenMSP wants to change that. Launched today, the new platform helps MSPs systematically cut costs by replacing commercial tools with vetted open-source alternatives, backed by AI-driven margin analysis and community support.

OpenMSP is a community-driven platform that helps MSPs and MSSPs identify where they can replace commercial software with vetted open-source alternatives, and understand the real financial impact of doing so. Built by Flamingo, OpenMSP combines curated vendor data, AI-powered margin analysis, and peer-driven support to turn open-source experimentation into a repeatable strategy.

“Adoption of open-source in the MSP world has been mostly fragmented and opportunistic,” said Michael Assraf, CEO of Flamingo. “OpenMSP is here to turn that into a repeatable, data-backed strategy. We provide MSPs with a curated vendor directory mapping 155+ commercial tools to open-source alternatives, along with one-click deployments powered by Elestio. Whether you start with one tool or a full transformation, we’re here to make open-source adoption practical and profitable.”

AI-Powered Margin Analysis Built for MSP Reality

At the center of the platform is the AI Margin Increase Report, a customizable tool that analyzes an MSP’s current software stack and shows projected cost savings, margin improvements, and implementation guidance. MSPs can manually adjust their toolsets, and the AI recalculates instantly.

“The AI Margin Increase Report is built for real-world decision-making, it’s fully customizable,” said Assraf. “To ensure these projections are grounded, we’ve invested heavily in curating and cleaning our vendor database and side-by-side comparison tools. But we’re also building this platform with the community, not just for it. We actively welcome feedback and suggestions in our OpenMSP Slack workspace.”

Targeted Cost Reduction Without Disruption

OpenMSP identifies open-source equivalents for over 60% of the 155 commercial vendors in its database, spanning categories like RMM, SIEM, IT documentation, ticketing, and business operations. The platform includes side-by-side comparisons between commercial tools like ConnectWise, Datto, and Kaseya, and open-source options like TacticalRMM, Wazuh, and Odoo—making it easier for MSPs to evaluate performance, functionality, and cost trade-offs.

Still, the goal isn’t to push a full-stack replacement overnight.

“We’re not asking MSPs to rip and replace their entire stack,” Assraf added. “Our approach is incremental and pragmatic. OpenMSP helps providers identify specific high-cost areas where open-source tools are mature and reliable. These are the easiest starting points to improve margins without destabilizing operations.”

For MSPs looking to go deeper, Flamingo is also building OpenFrame, a full open-source MSP stack with unified logging, automation-ready APIs, and optional AI capabilities.

“We’re building OpenFrame for providers ready to go all in,” Assraf said. “It eliminates the complexity of piecing everything together manually and offers an AI-ready, open-source-powered alternative to the legacy MSP stack. Whether it’s one tool or your entire stack, we’re here to support the journey—on your terms and on your timeline.”
