Kyndryl Becomes VMware Cloud Managed Services Provider

Cloud infrastructure provider Kyndryl announced this week it has become a VMware Cross-Cloud Managed Services Provider.

Kyndryl has achieved the VMware Managed Services Specialization and has completed a Validated Service Offering (VSO) for VMware Cloud on AWS, according to a statement from Kyndryl.

Kyndryl has been working to build its relationships with big cloud hyperscalers over the past couple years, so this VMware partnership is a natural extension of that.

Kyndryl was spun out from IBM an independent managed infrastructure services provider business in November 2021.

Kyndryl's Managed VMware Cloud on AWS Services

Kyndryl's Managed VMware Cloud on AWS services are based on a VMware Cloud Foundation environment to help manage cloud services across on-premises data centers and AWS, the company said.

Kyndryl is also working to create a VMware Cross-Cloud managed service based on VMware Cloud editions to help customers lower the total cost of ownership for on-premises environments, simplify operations, deliver observability and performance optimization, and accelerate cloud migrations.

Kyndryl and VMware Cross-Cloud managed services will help VMware customers better build, implement, migrate, modernize and manage their hybrid cloud capabilities, the companies said.

The Partnership Value Proposition

VMware vice president of hyberscaler and technology partners, Abhay Kumar said that the partnership between VMware and Kyndryl makes a great deal of sense.

“VMware and Kyndryl have proven success in helping our mutual clients to accelerate IT and business reinvention,” said Kumar. “The combination of VMware Cross-Cloud managed services and proven Kyndryl design, build, and managed services can unlock the untapped potential of multi-cloud for organizations of all sizes.”

The growing complexity of IT across industries and organizations has spurred the market for such partnerships.

“With large and complex IT estates across clouds becoming increasingly challenging to manage, IT leaders want to be more efficient, intuitive and sustainable -- but often do not know where to start,” said Harish Grama, Kyndryl Global Cloud Practice Leader.

“These certifications and our hyperscaler partnerships will help Kyndryl meet our customers where they are on their IT modernization journey in a hybrid cloud environment," he said "We will continue to strengthen and broaden our relationship with VMware and our ability to jointly support our customers as they modernize their technology landscape.”
