gWorks Expands With Acquisition of Freedom Systems

In a strategic move to broaden its software solution offerings for the public sector, gWorks has acquired Freedom Systems, a Pennsylvania-based software company. Financial information about the deal was not disclosed.

gWorks, founded in 1978, is based in Omaha, Nebraska. The company has 87 employees listed on LinkedIn gWorks’ areas of expertise include providing an all-in-one, cloud-native software platform designed for small and medium-sized local governments, special districts, and rural utility agencies.  This platform offers a range of services such as fund accounting, budgeting, payroll management, GIS mapping, operations & work management, asset management, utility billing, citizen engagement, and more. gWorks serves over 2,500 local governments throughout the United States and is backed by BV Investment Partners.

Freedom Systems, founded in 1986, is headquartered in Eagleville, Pennsylvania. The company has 12 employees listed on LinkedIn. Freedom Systems’ areas of expertise include technology solutions, including tax and utility billing, work order and asset management, human resources, and payroll management software, catering to small local governments throughout Pennsylvania.

The acquisition, finalized on March 27, 2024, is part of a strategic move by gWorks to expand its software solutions aimed at the public sector.
