Cisco Acquires Singularity for Service Provider Network Automation

Cisco Systems is acquiring Singularity Networks, a provider of log and network infrastructure analytics software, the companies have confirmed.

Cisco will plug Singularity's technology into its Crosswork Network Automation portfolio -- which helps service providers to automate their networks.

Targeting MSSPs: The use cases include all types of service providers -- such as MSSPs focused on network security services. The company has specifically targeted MSSP Alert's Top 100 List for potential customer wins & MSSP adoption.

Singularity Networks: More Than Just Security

But this is far more than a security play for Cisco. Singularity has a range of use cases, the networking giant says. "Singularity Networks captures, enriches, and analyzes network data to help service providers, web companies and enterprises improve network performance, manage costs, gain visibility, and reduce downtime," Rob Salvagno, head of corporate development and Cisco investments, asserted in a blog post

The net result, he says: Singularity Networks technology will help service providers to "provide reliable, timely, and actionable information about what’s happening in the network 24/7 to deliver premium networked experiences."

The deal is expected to be finalized in the third quarter of Cisco's fiscal year 2019. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Singularity Networks: Key Partners

Singularity has a range of partners -- including:

  • Channel Partners: Several well-known IT consulting firms and security solutions providers like Optiv and Presidio's Red Sky business. Both Optiv and Presidio rank on the MSSP Alert Top 100 MSSPs list.
  • Monitoring Platforms: The company's technology integrates with a lengthy list of monitoring platforms, including those from New Relic and Data Dog.
  • Technology Vendors: Relationships with such Cisco rivals as Juniper Networks and Palo Alto Networks.

We'll be checking to see if or how those third-party vendor relationships remain in place.

Side note: The acquisition comes as Cisco continues to round out its multi-cloud management strategy and product portfolio for service providers. We'll share more details about that very soon.
