Two specialized MSPs, Abacus Group and Medicus IT, are
merging to create a new kind of platform: one purpose-built for the high-stakes compliance and security needs of financial services and healthcare organizations.
Abacus and Medicus aren’t trying to be all things to all clients. Instead, the merger zeroes in on the two verticals they know best, financial services and healthcare, while building the operational muscle to grow within them.
“Both collectively and independently, we’ve already reached much of the scale required to lead in our respective verticals, which represent two of the largest TAMs in the MSP space,"
Jonathan Bohrer, President of Abacus Group told ChannelE2E. “With a combined TAM of more than $20B, we have ample opportunity for robust, long-term growth for years to come. Importantly, we’ve made a deliberate decision not to compete with generalist MSPs in the broader MSP/MSSP landscape. Our focus on these two large, highly regulated verticals is what sets us apart.”
The combined organization isn’t starting from scratch. Each company brings years of operational maturity and subject matter depth to the table. What changes is the scale at which they can now execute, whether that’s expanding geographic reach, building new capabilities, or reinforcing their bench strength across key service lines.
Security, AI, and Automation - On Regulated Terms
One of the most immediate opportunities lies in cybersecurity and AI. Bohrer said the new platform will be able to offer more comprehensive, full-spectrum cybersecurity services, which include defensive, offensive, and response capabilities, something few MSPs or MSSPs can claim.
“AI and DevOps-driven automation are central to our innovation strategy,” he added. “These drive greater efficiency and productivity not only for our clients but also within our internal processes, which will further benefit our clients through faster, more accurate service delivery. All of this is grounded by a suite of services purpose-built for regulated investors and healthcare providers.”
This foundation isn’t just technical, it’s strategic. The goal is to build solutions where automation and AI don’t just save time, but improve compliance outcomes in environments where mistakes are costly and oversight is intense.
Cross-Industry Leverage, Not Dilution
While financial services and healthcare have distinct regulatory environments, they also share a growing list of compliance concerns, particularly around data protection and access control. Bohrer said the integration will take advantage of these overlaps.
“Being digitally rooted, with the majority of our underlying technology and tools built on modern API-driven datasets, we are able to leverage our embedded AI and DevOps-driven capabilities across the verticals,” he said. “Regulatory commonalities, particularly concerning data privacy and protection, present opportunities for enhanced service. We will carefully select the best practices from each company’s approach, applying them to benefit all of our customers.”
This isn’t about flattening everything into one-size-fits-all services. It’s about applying tested insights from one high-compliance environment to another, improving delivery across the board without compromising on specialization. With a clear identity, steady leadership, and sector-specific depth, the combined company is positioning itself not as a generalist platform with add-ons, but as a compliance-first MSP/MSSP built to serve where the rules are strict and the stakes are high.
