Verizon Launches Government Managed Services Platform

Verizon Enterprise Solutions (NYSE: VZ) has launched managed IT services that target United States federal government agencies. Verizon's Global Enterprise IT Management (GEITM) service also fulfills the Federal Information Security Management ACT (FISMA) High level requirements, the company says.

Verizon says the GEITM offering addresses the federal government's network, desktop, server and application management. The platform integrates with Verizon's Government Network Operations Security Center (GNOSC), a facility designed to house Verizon's most security sensitive clients. For Department of Defense agencies, GEITM is built to meet DoD 8500  and DOD RMF standard and integrate into DoD mission assurance levels, the company says.

GEITM delivers the following Verizon-managed services, the company asserts:

  • Managed WAN/LAN:  Router and switch monitoring, fault isolation and notification, provisioning, configuration, management, and support
  • Managed Server:  Performance, analytics, orchestration, provisioning of server devices (UNIX, Microsoft and more)
  • Managed Virtual Server: Virtual server provisioning, performance, hypervisor management
  • Managed Desktop: Asset Management of end-user devices (desktop, laptop)
  • Managed Applications: Performance monitoring of server-based applications

GEITM includes the following capabilities, Verizon says:

  • Unifies network, security and IT management platforms
  • Built to meet FISMA High requirements
  • ITIL based processes
  • Delivers continuous monitoring
  • Supports services for Networx contracts

The government-centric managed services push emerges as Verizon rethinks its overall IT support strategy. Like several other telcos, the company has been trying to sell off its cloud data centers. Verizon prefers to focus on network-centric opportunities rather than head-on cloud competition vs. Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
