5 Channel Partner Updates: Thursday 17 January 2019

Here are five technology news updates, insights, chatter, and plenty more to start your day for Thursday, January 17, 2019. Actually, there are 17 timely updates designed for managed services providers (MSPs), cloud services providers (CSPs), IT consulting firms, systems integrators, VARs, independent software vendors (ISVs), and telco agents to sip on. 17. Oracle Cloud - Deja Vu: Oracle CEO Mark Hurd has vowed to make his company a leader in the SaaS applications market. His goal: Ensure Oracle commands roughly half of the SaaS market. Alas, published reports keep referring to his goal as an "apps market" push. But that's misleading, since most folks associate apps with smart phones, mobile devices, and smart TVs. In reality, Hurd has spent the past two years predicting that only two companies will ultimately dominate the SaaS market -- though he's declined to predict a timeframe for Oracle's dominance. No doubt, Oracle has considerable SaaS momentum. But so do such rivals as SAP, Microsoft, Salesforce and Workday, among others... 16. Dell and VMware Alignment: Dell and VMware's economic interests are perfectly aligned, according to VMware COO Sanjay Poonen. We'll be watching to see what that alignment means for Dell revenues and profits when the company announces fiscal year 2019 fourth quarter results on February 28, 2018. It will mark the first earnings announcement since Dell returned to public markets in December 2018. 15. Partnership - IBM-Juniper: IBM Services has scored a $325 million agreement to assist Juniper Networks with various infrastructure, application, cloud and IT services. 14. Talent - Software: 3CLogic, a provider of cloud contact center software, has hired Matt Durkin as VP of sales for direct and channel efforts. He previously ran the healthcare sales division for Dell-Compellent, doubling sales annually, 3CLogic says.
13. Talent - IT Cost Management: MDSL, a provider of technology expense management software, has hired Tom Feeley as VP of global sales and Aaron Zeper as VP of customer demand. Feeley previously held key posts at Dun & Bradstreet, EMC and Oracle. Zeper is a veteran of CloudCover and Tech Data.
12. Talent - MSP Software: Dan Cooper, managing partner of Jamcoop and chairman of Terrell’s Office Solutions, has joined Continuum's board of advisors. 11. Talent - Vertical Market MSP: Healthcare IT executive Steven Cummings has joined VertitechIT -- a Massachusetts-based IT consultancy -- as an executive project officer (EPO). M&ADigiCert a provider of TLS/SSL, IoT and other PKI solutions, has completed its buyout of QuoVadis -- a qualified trust service provider (TSP) in the European Union (EU) and Switzerland. 9. Managed Database Services: Rackspace has launched Managed Database Services for AWS, a suite of services for Amazon Aurora, Amazon Redshift, AWS Glue and Amazon Athena. The cloud-centric MSP has spent the past two to three years introducing managed services for AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and other third-party clouds. 7. IoT Management and AWS: Bsquare, a provider of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) services and software, has selected AWS as its preferred cloud services provider. The effort focuses on DataV, a suite of edge-to-cloud IoT services and software designed to improve uptime, manageability, and performance of enterprise assets, Bsquare says. 6. Talent - SD-WANs: Aryaka has hired Karen Freitag (Chief Revenue Officer), Michelle Owczarzak (Chief Transformation Officer), and Shashi Kiran (Chief Marketing Officer). This is the company's second wave of executive hires in recent months. Matt Carter joined as CEO September 2018, and Deepak Kumar arrived as senior VP, customer success in December 2018. 5. Microsoft Azure Stack -Cloud Migrations: Movere and ZeroDown Software are partnering to build application migration solutions for the Microsoft Azure Stack.  Their combined offering will address everything from discovery and assessment through migration to run/operate and workload optimization in the cloud. 4. Microsoft Azure Expert MSPs: Navisite, a part of Spectrum Enterprise, has been recognized as a Microsoft Azure Expert MSP. Microsoft launched the formalized Azure-MSP partner program in mid-2018, giving chase to Amazon's long-established MSP efforts. 3. Microsoft Azure - Partner Complications?: Microsoft's new approach for selling Azure cloud services to customers appears to put partners at a disadvantage, Redmond Channel Partner alleges. 2.
