The UAE has launched a major artificial intelligence infrastructure initiative, the Stargate data center, with support from major U.S. tech companies including Nvidia, Cisco, Oracle, and OpenAI, according to CNBC. The project is being developed by Emirati technology firm G42 and will be built in Abu Dhabi. According to the U.S. Commerce Department, the facility is planned to span 10 square miles and deliver a 5-gigawatt capacity, marking it as one of the region’s most ambitious AI-focused developments.Nvidia is set to supply the center with its Blackwell GB300 chips, which were announced earlier this year and are already being deployed in other regional AI infrastructure projects. This latest partnership reinforces Nvidia’s strategy of supporting high-capacity compute environments in global markets. The company’s CEO, along with other tech leaders, was recently in the UAE to support the launch and ongoing collaboration efforts. The UAE Stargate initiative will be closely aligned with the similarly named AI infrastructure project announced by the Trump administration in the U.S. earlier this year. That initiative includes plans for data center campuses across 16 states, with the first facility under construction in Abilene, Texas. Oracle and OpenAI are participating in both projects, signaling a coordinated international AI infrastructure expansion strategy involving public and private players. The UAE announcement coincided with President Trump’s state visit to the region, during which he also visited Saudi Arabia. The visits appear to be part of a broader strategy to deepen U.S.-Middle East technology partnerships. While company representatives have declined to comment publicly, the involvement of multiple AI and cloud infrastructure leaders suggests the Stargate initiative is positioned as a long-term anchor for regional AI development.
