Sophos Introduces Workspace Protection for Hybrid Work and AI Governance

(Adobe Stock)

Sophos has expanded its security portfolio with the launch of Sophos Workspace Protection, a new offering designed to secure hybrid and remote work while giving organizations greater visibility into application and AI usage. The product is positioned around the reality that modern work now takes place primarily in browsers and cloud applications, often outside traditional network boundaries. Sophos says the goal is to protect users, data, and applications wherever work happens, without adding new layers of infrastructure.

The offering is built around the Sophos Protected Browser, powered by Island, and managed through the Sophos Central platform. By embedding security controls directly into the browser, Sophos Workspace Protection applies policy and access controls at the workspace level rather than routing traffic through centralized security stacks. This approach is intended to simplify deployment and management while extending protections consistently across corporate offices, remote workers, contractors, and guest users.

Governance is a central focus of the release, particularly as unsanctioned SaaS tools and generative AI applications become common in daily workflows. Sophos Workspace Protection provides organization-wide visibility into Shadow IT and Shadow AI usage, allowing security teams to understand how applications and AI tools are being used and what data may be exposed. This visibility is aimed at helping organizations assess risk and enforce policy as new technologies are adopted, rather than responding after incidents occur.

Sophos Workspace Protection is delivered as a set of integrated components, including the protected browser, zero trust network access, DNS protection, and email monitoring. These components can be deployed together or individually depending on organizational needs, all managed through a single platform. Sophos plans to make Workspace Protection available to customers and partners beginning in February 2026.
