OneSpan Adds Nok Nok Labs to Expand Passwordless Authentication Portfolio

Password protection concept

OneSpan has acquired Nok Nok Labs, deepening its capabilities in passwordless authentication by combining hardware-based security with a mature software platform, reports CRN reports. The move brings together two founding members of the FIDO Alliance and marks a continued shift in the market toward standards-based, flexible authentication options across user types and devices.

Nok Nok Labs is known for its work developing FIDO-compliant software that enables seamless passwordless experiences across digital platforms. Its platform supports protocols such as UAF and FIDO2 and has been adopted by enterprises including Verizon and Intuit. For OneSpan, this acquisition fills a gap on the software side, complementing its hardware offerings like FIDO2 security keys and transaction signing tools.

The timing reflects broader trends in the authentication market. As passkeys gain support from large ecosystem players and standards reach maturity, the industry focus is moving toward implementation and scalability. The combination of Nok Nok’s platform and OneSpan’s existing tools is expected to streamline deployment and give customers more flexibility in choosing the right authentication method for each use case, whether in banking, workforce access, or consumer services.

This acquisition also aligns with OneSpan’s expanding partner strategy. Following the launch of its formal channel program, OneSpan’s combined portfolio offers new opportunities for service providers to integrate passwordless solutions into broader digital identity projects. With both hardware and software now under one roof, OneSpan is positioned to support partners and customers navigating the shift away from passwords.
