Channel Brief: DEX Imaging Leaves Staples

Longtime readers may remember when ChannelE2E covered managed print acquisitions by Staples, including the family-run DEX Imaging in 2019. Staples is now exiting and a new investor has come aboard in partnership with the owner family. More details below.

Today's round up also includes a big security email acquisition, new channel partner programs and a security platform enhancement. We've also got an update for you about the Federal Trade Commission's move yesterday to outlaw non-compete agreements.

A. Today’s Tech, Channel and MSP News

1. New ConnectWise security integrations - ConnectWiseis rolling out new integrations with Microsoft Defender for Business into its RMM and PSA platforms for MSPs. The integrations let MSPs streamline solutions' operations through the company's next gen cloud-based Asio platform. Microsoft Defender for Business brings enterprise-grade endpoint security to SMBs and is available as part of Microsoft 365 Business Premium or as a standalone solution, the companies said. The companies previously announced the integration of Microsoft Defender for Business into ConnectWise MDR in Fall 2023.

2. Outlawing non-competes - The Federal Trade Commission has voted to enact a nationwide ban on non-compete agreements. The Commission estimates that 30 million U.S. workers, or roughly 18% are subject to non-competes now – they are made to sign agreements saying they won’t work for a competitior in the same industry if they leave their current jobs. The new rule (PDF)  is slated to go into effect 120 days after it is published in the Federal Register. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce said it would sue the agency to prevent the rule from going into effect. (source: CNBC)

3. Security acquisition - KnowBe4, a security awareness training and simulated phishing platform provider, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Egress, a provider of adaptive and integrated cloud email security. Egress’ Intelligent Email Security suite provides a set of scaled, AI-enabled security tools with adaptive learning capabilities to help prevent, protect and defend organizations against sophisticated email cybersecurity threats. Further terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

4. Secureworks platform update - Secureworks will integrate XDR with VDR (vulnerability, detectiona nd response) within the SecureWorks Taegis security platform. The integration is now available to channel partners and their customers.

5. Managed print deal-  DEX Imaging, a managed print services business, is returning to its roots. The company, initially founded by Dan Doyle Sr and Dan Doyle Jr in 2002 had been acquired by Staples in 2019. Going full circle, Gamut Capital Management, in partnership with the Doyle family, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the business from Staples. The Doyles have remained in partnership with the company’s investors throughout.

6. New partner program -  Adaptive Shield, a SaaS security provider, has launched a global partner program to accelerate channel-led growth and deliver SaaS security posture management (SSPM) technology at scale alongside local support. The multi-tiered program focuses on VARs, distributors, alliances and MSSPs.

7. eSignature partner program -  Intelligent contract automation platform, Docubee, is launching a new partner program for VARs, MSPs and referral companies. 

8. New AI boss -  LogicMonitor, which offers SaaS-based hybrid observability powered by AI, has appointed Karthik Sj as the company's general manager of Artificial Intelligence. Sj will spearhead LogicMonitor’s artificial intelligence for IT operations (AIOps) initiatives and generative AI strategy, advancing the company's offering of AI powered hybrid observability solutions for enterprises.
