The Next MSP Business Management Platform: Domo Cloud?

Share

Here's a two-part question: First, what will potentially disrupt the MSP software market? Second, what could potentially disrupt the business management software market? The answer in both cases could involve Domo, a cloud-based business management platform that includes an App Store.

Whether you're an IT service provider or a small business owner, just about all entrepreneurs have been seeking end-to-end business management systems. In the micro business market, this can involve upstart offerings like 17 hats. In the MSP market, it often involves PSA (professional services automation), RMM (remote monitoring and management) and other tools potentially integrated in an end-to-end way.

Now, along comes Domo -- which has launched a freemium Business Cloud designed to ensure "decision makers at every company of every size have access to compelling tools to run their business." A Domo AppStore will allow ISVs to build business management platforms that run on the company's cloud.

At first glance, Domo is mainly about business intelligence apps that show you how each piece of the business --  sales, finance, HR, etc. -- is performing. I wonder: Will somebody step up and start developing IT management applications that plug into Domo?

Domo's success isn't guaranteed. But the company has a big war chest -- $500 million in venture capital funding -- and big-name entrepreneurs on board. CEO Josh James founded Domo in 2010. Earlier, he was co-founder and CEO of Omniture, which went public in 2006.

Most of Domo's buzz is out on mainstream IT media websites at the moment. But I suspect some channel buzz is coming soon -- especially as ISVs build and activate applications for Domo's App Store.
