Stratoscale has acquired Tesora, a cloud database-as-a-service (DBaaS) provider and MSP that supports Oracle, MySQL and more than a dozen other databases. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Tesora’s team offers managed services and secure cloud access to popular databases through a single consistent interface, the company asserts. The deal reinforces Stratoscale Symphony, which transforms on-premises x86 servers into Amazon Web Services (AWS)-compatible deployments.
“This acquisition is an important milestone in Stratoscale’s ability to help customers on their journey to the cloud,” said Ariel Maislos, CEO & Founder of Stratoscale, in a prepared statement. “Organizations want to consume database as a service in a click-of-a-button. Stratoscale is happy to bring Tesora onboard to make this a reality.”
What Is Tesora DBaaS?
Tesora DBaaS is an enterprise-hardened version of OpenStack Trove, the native database service for OpenStack, the company asserts. The platform supports self-service provisioning, automated backup and restore, enterprise-grade security and clustering, Tesora says.
Tesora raised $4.5 million in venture funding in June 2015, bringing total funding at the time to $13.2 million. Key Tesora partners have included Red Hat and Mirantis.
Or as InfoWorld recently put it:
"Stratoscale is a small company with a very big ambition: to turn your datacenter into an Amazon Web Services (AWS) region. Forget OpenStack, forget VMware. Stratoscale aims to help IT shops get beyond device-level virtualization and deliver the same app-friendly building blocks AWS provides. In the process, the company promises to cut the cost of operating datacenters by more than 80 percent."
