OVH, a CSP that specializes in Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), has acquired a data center facility in Hillsboro, Oregon, Three of the company's 23 global data centers are now in North America. OVH's overall data center footprint spans 11 countries and four continents. The company did not indicate whether the Hillsboro, Oregon, deal involves a barebones real estate buildout or a full-blown data center buyout. Also, I don't believe a seller name was revealed (we're double-checking). OVH says the Oregon data center will eventually house roughly 80,000 servers in 112,500 square feet.No doubt, OVH competes in an extremely crowded market -- especially as massive CSPs and IaaS providers like Microsoft and Amazon Web Services expand their footprints, and REITs (real estate investment trusts) buy data centers to gain economies of scale.
