Even as VMware and the Microsoft Azure team apparently explore new cloud partnership opportunities, Amazon Web Services (AWS) apparently remains VMware's top public cloud priority.
"We do see the Amazon relationship as unique," VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger said during an earnings call on Thursday. "We’ve described that as a preferred relationship -- the number one public with the number one private ."
VMware also has a VCPP program with more than 4,000 cloud partners, Gelsinger notes. "But our preferred relationship with Amazon is giving us great results and we’ll be continuing to focus on that into the future," he added.
During the earnings call, Gelsinger did not address rumors about Microsoft and VMware striving to work more closely together. But he did note that VMware PKS 1.3 now supports Microsoft Azure. VMware also develops a range of software tools for Google Cloud Platform and IBM Cloud.
