Premier BPO, a business process outsourcing company, has acquired dinCloud, which specializes in Workspace as a Service (WaaS) -- including hosted desktops along with various cloud infrastructure services. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Under Premier BPO's ownership, dinCloud will continue to provide IT outsourcing of desktop virtualization, application publishing, and managed IT services. dinCloud also has some vertical market on expertise. The company around May 2017 launched cloud services specifically designed for the lending industry — including mortgage brokers, bankers, direct lenders and credit unions.

Premier BPO, meanwhile, will provide back office support for sales and lead generation, inbound customer service, and data entry work for industries like telecom, transportation and logistics, and healthcare and medical devices.

Premier BPO expects to extend its services into the dinCloud customer base; those offers will include billing and collections, cash flow analysis and accounting, procurement and customer service, as well as lead generation. Premier BPO CEO Mark Briggs will also lead dinCloud. The combined companies have roughly 600 employees worldwide.

WaaS Market Shakeout?

No doubt, the WaaS market is growing -- but it's also highly fragmented. Dozens of upstarts focus on WaaS and desktop as a service. Giants like VMware, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Citrix Systems also have various approaches to the market.

Also,  companies like CloudJumper and iTopia (among others) have been particularly active with MSPs in the WaaS sector.

We've heard rumblings about multiple WaaS companies seeking funding and/or potential suitors for their businesses, and expect M&A in the segment to accelerate over the next few months.
