Platform9 has released updates to its Private Cloud Director that add new AI hardware support and expanded features for its vJailbreak tool, further easing VMware migrations. The improvements now let MSPs and their customers convert entire VMware vSphere clusters in place, streamlining the migration process. The latest version of Private Cloud Director enables workloads to share AI hardware more efficiently, supporting customers that are expanding AI-enabled applications while continuing to run traditional workloads in the same environments. AI hardware is supported in GPU passthrough mode or as vGPUs, which are designed to provide efficient resource sharing across teams. The release also introduces predictive load management with dynamic resource rebalancing, using machine learning to analyze usage trends and automatically shift workloads to maximize utilization, improve efficiency, and lower total cost of ownership. Also included is a new Terraform-based application catalog that delivers DevOps-ready automation for complex, multi-VM applications.Madhura Maskasky, co-founder and chief product officer at Platform9, told ChannelE2E that customers have been asking for these enhancements as they seek to migrate workloads away from VMware."MSPs and customers have been asking for an easier migration path to help alleviate the risk and complexity associated with VMware migration projects,” Maskasky said. "The latest update to vJailbreak takes away all the complexity around onboarding new hypervisors, configuring them per the requirements of the new platform.”For channel partners and their customers, the ability to convert entire vSphere clusters in place is significant, she added. "This will enable them to migrate their VMware environments in days to weeks, rather than years, and at one-tenth of the cost,” Maskasky said. "The latest update to vJailbreak makes migrations 70% faster compared to our previous release and requires 50% fewer personnel.”Private Cloud Director is available on-premises, as a SaaS deployment, or through a fully featured, community-supported Community Edition. The new version also adds two-node high availability cluster support to meet edge deployment requirements, extending cloud architecture efficiency and scalability while reducing costs.Platform9’s vJailbreak is designed to help VMware customers migrate private cloud environments as VMware continues to implement program changes that raise costs and complexity. Using standardized application stacks, developers can access preferred deployment tools and processes with unified support for both VMs and containers, allowing traditional and AI-native applications to be managed side by side. The updated vJailbreak can automate the migration of fleets of VMs and their underlying hypervisor hosts on existing vSphere clusters. Hosts are handled one at a time: taken down, re-imaged as KVM hypervisors, and reconfigured for storage and networking. They are then brought back up as part of a Platform9 Private Cloud Director cluster, with the VMs automatically migrating into the new environment through vJailbreak.
