DataCore Acquires StarWind to Deliver Hyperconverged Infrastructure Across Core, Edge, and Remote Environments

8. Focus on Virtual Machines

DataCore Software has acquired StarWind Software in a strategic move that extends its hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) capabilities into distributed environments such as edge locations, remote offices, and small to mid-sized business (SMB) deployments. The acquisition aligns with DataCore’s vision to deliver infrastructure that meets the evolving demands of decentralized IT, as more enterprises generate and process data outside the confines of traditional data centers.

The acquisition enables DataCore to offer a single, integrated software-defined platform that addresses both traditional and modern infrastructure needs. Its portfolio now spans block, file, S3 object, and container-native storage, giving IT teams the flexibility to support a range of workloads across private data centers, public clouds, and edge locations. The combined capabilities strengthen DataCore’s position in the HCI market, particularly at a time when many enterprises are evaluating alternatives to VMware’s vSAN amid uncertainty following Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware.

The move is also a response to market demand for simpler, cost-effective IT solutions at the edge. Managing IT across remote locations often means working with limited personnel and tighter budgets. By merging StarWind’s low-footprint, high-performance HCI solutions with its own, DataCore is offering a compelling path forward for organizations that need scalable infrastructure without adding operational burden.

In practical terms, the joint offering is expected to appeal to sectors like retail, healthcare, manufacturing, and finance—industries that require real-time data access and processing at distributed sites. It also positions DataCore as a viable HCI provider for MSPs and VARs who serve SMB clients or manage hybrid deployments on behalf of enterprise customers.

With this acquisition, DataCore takes a definitive step toward enabling unified infrastructure management across core and edge, offering more control, deployment flexibility, and independence from hardware and hypervisor lock-in. The focus remains on helping customers manage their data more effectively—wherever it resides.
