IBM is having its best day ever.
As CNBC reported, IBM surged 14% Thursday after a strong fourth quarter in which AI boosted the company's software business. The company's stock is on pace for its best day on record based on data going back as far as 1972.
The company reported adjusted earnings of $3.92 per share on $17.55 billion in revenue after markets closed Wednesday. LSEG polling showed analysts expected earnings to come in at $3.75 per share and revenues to reach $17.54 billion.
IBM reported a 1% rise in revenues overall, while its software unit grew 10% on a year-over-year basis amid growing demand for artificial intelligence and the Red Hat Linux OS. CEO Arvind Krishna also said that the company posted $5 billion in bookings for its generative AI segment.

1. Mitel names new international sales VP: Business and unified communications provider Mitel has appointed Marco Landi as Group Vice President of International Sales. Landi has more than 30 years of international experience in general management, sales, marketing, and product development in technology, hardware, and software. He will lead Mitel’s international sales team, including the EMEA and APAC regions. Prior to joining Mitel, Landi was chief revenue officer at Sensormatic Solutions and also held leadership roles at Poly and Motorola. Congratulations!
2. TeamViewer launches free iOS support app: TeamViewer has launched a new app aimed at helping IT support Apple devices. The free Visual Guidance for the TeamViewer QuickSupport app allows for remote IT support to iPhones and iPads while adhering to Apple’s strong security guidelines. Visual Guidance creates a small screen-within-a-screen on the end user’s mobile device to show what the support expert is doing in real-time. Users then follow along with the expert’s guidance on their own device.
3. Expereo names new channel leadership: This week, Expereo appointed Mike Otting as senior vice president of channel for the U.S. Otting has 20+ years of experience in channel sales and will focus on driving the company’s channel sales strategy, including forging strong partnerships, enhancing partner enablement programs, developing scalable go-to-market plans and ensuring that the channel ecosystem is central to revenue growth. Currently, 60% of Expereo's revenue comes through the channel; Expereo has 121 total partners: Six master agents and 115 sub-agents. Congratulations!
4. Scality launches service provider program: Scality this week announced a new Cloud & Service Provider Program with a flexible pay-as-you-go licensing model. The program is optimized for Veeam cloud service providers and features Scality ARTESCA as a 100% software storage backup target for Veeam Backup-as-a-Service offerings.
5. Oracle, Google Cloud expand partnership: Orace and Google Cloud today announced an expanded partnership with broader regional coverage, additional services aimed at disaster recovery and a low-cost entry offering for customers wanting to adopt Oracle’s Exadata high-performance database platform. Oracle Database@Google Cloud will expand to eight new regions with the addition of U.S. Central 1 (Iowa), North America-Northeast 1 (Montreal), North America-Northeast 2 (Toronto), Asia-Northeast 1 (Tokyo), Asia-Northeast 2 (Osaka), Asia-South 1 (Mumbai), Asia-South 2 (Delhi), and South America-East 1 (Sao Paulo). The service is currently available in U.S. East (Ashburn), U.S. West (Salt Lake City), U.K. South (London), and Germany Central (Frankfurt). The companies said data center capacity will also be doubled in the London, Frankfurt and Ashburn regions over the next 12 months, as SiliconAngle reported.
