Channel Brief: Huntress Sensitive Data Mode Eases CMMC Compliance

IBM has completed its $6.4 billion deal to acquire HashiCorp, which means HashiCorp Vault is now available through IBM's automation software portfolio, the company said.

The combination of HashiCorp Vault and Red Hat OpenShift, for example, will offer strong secrets management and security capabilities across hybrid cloud environments. 

As far as future roadmap and plans for HashiCorp, IBM said in a statement that those will be determined and announced post-close, but IBM sees several use cases emerging – like helping provide end-to-end security with flexible and transparent data encryption and centralized identity management via the IBM Guardium and IBM Verify portfolios.

1. Huntress simplifies CMMC compliance: In a blog post yesterday, Huntress's Chris Henderson detailed a new Sensitive Data Mode, which blocks SOC access to potential controlled unclassified information (CUI) files without affecting security analysts’ ability to effectively detect and remediate threats. CMMC compliance is tricky for managed service providers, especially since the requirements have shifted over the past few years. This is a helpful tool that will help MSPs more easily ensure their clients' CMMC compliance and improve security.

2. EDB boosts channel program: EDB is expanding its channel program to boost adoption of its Postgres-based database platform by more data analytics and AI applications. The company has also launched a new partner portal and a repository of vertical industry customer case studies that partners can draw on, EDB said.

3. ConnectWise MSP threat report 2025: ConnectWise this week released its 2025 MSP threat report. The report, conducted by the ConnectWise Cyber Research Unit (CRU), analyzes millions of endpoint detection and response (EDR) and security information and event management (SIEM) alerts, to find emerging trends, attack vectors, and practical defenses. The 2025 report found significant shifts in ransomware tactics, including a focus on data extortion and smaller MSP targets, the rise of sophisticated EDR evasion techniques, and the persistent threat of drive-by attacks, among other findings.

4. Google seeks new memory safety standards framework: Google is proposing a new technology-neutral memory safety standard framework to address memory safety vulnerabilities that elude secure-by-design principles, SC Media reports. The new framework would ensure improved data security while remaining compatible with currently available programming languages. Google has been pushing for improved data security by advancing Rust and other memory-safe programming languages and implementing a libC++ library. Memory safety measures will also be adopted by Google for its Go, Java, and Kotlin code libraries.
