Good morning, channel partners. Here are five technology news updates, insights, chatter, and plenty more to start your day for Thursday, January 18, 2018.

Actually, there are eight timely updates designed for VARs, managed services providers (MSPs), cloud services providers (CSPs), independent software vendors (ISVs), telco master agents and telco agents to sip on. Take a look…

8. Avaya Investors: Avaya shares started trading on Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange, the first time the enterprise telecommunications provider has been public in more than a decade, Reuters notes. Avaya was private equity owned before filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy and reorganizing its business for most of 2017. The company emerged from bankruptcy with a partner-centric focus in December 2017, and is set to host a major conference  -- Avaya Engage 2018 -- later this month.

7. John Chambers' Next Act: Former Cisco Systems CEO John Chambers is shifting his full-time focus to venture capital. The effort involves J2C Ventures...

6. Partner Program: Riverbed has launched Riverbed Rise, a new channel parter program that "aligns with the changing IT landscape and how partners are evolving to solve their customers’ technology needs." Bridget Bisnette, VP of global channels and commercial sales at Riverbed, is leading the charge.

5. NTT and Microsoft Cloud: NTT Com has earned Microsoft Gold Cloud Platform status, the highest accreditation currently available, for its competency in delivering on quality, expertise and differentiated managed services in the cloud. Damian Skendrovic, CEO of NTT Com Managed Services, oversees the relationship -- which includes a focus on Azure Stack.

4. Cloud Market Share: Amazon Web Services' market share apparently is falling... not that anyone is in panic mode...

3. Hardware as a Rental: Jenne, the distributor, will offer Hardware as a Rental (HaaR) services from GreatAmerica, the two companies confirmed yesterday. HaaR, a term that GreatAmerica trademarked, differs from traditional Hardware as a Service (HaaS) because channel partners don't have to lock up their own cash flow in the effort.
