Good morning, channel partners. Here are five technology news updates, insights, chatter, and plenty more to start your day for Thursday, July 5, 2018.

Actually, there are seven timely updates designed for VARs, managed services providers (MSPs), cloud services providers (CSPs), independent software vendors (ISVs), telco master agents and telco agents to sip on. Take a look:

7. Dell-VMware Deal Approval?: Activist investor Carl Icahn won't likely push Dell to sweeten a deal that will will return the PC giant to public markets. The apparent reason: Icahn has already profited heavily from his stake in VMware, which which Dell retains a majority stake.

6. Talent: Intel veteran Diane Bryant has resigned from Google's cloud business after less than a year on the job. Her resignation sparked rumors that Bryant could be Intel's next CEO. The chip giant's CEO position is vacant because former leader Brian Krzanich resigned in June after he violated one of the company's employment policies.

5. Talent: TitanHQ, which develops web filtering, email filtering and email archiving solutions, has hired AppRiver veteran Rocco Donnino as executive VP of strategic alliances. TitanHQ has existing relationships with Comcast, Datto, BitDefender, Microsoft, Kaseya and ViaSat. TitanHQ has also opened a new office on Long Island.

4. Private Equity Concerns: Pension funds are taking aim at private equity firms for exploiting a financial sleight of hand that can make even mediocre investments look brilliant, the LA Times reports. The dispute centers on a common — and legal — practice: To make an investment, private equity funds are increasingly borrowing against clients’ commitments, then asking for the cash later, the Times says.

3. M&A Speculation - Data Centers: Macquarie Group may acquire a majority stake in T5 Data Centers at a valuation of roughly $800 million, according to National Real Estate Investor.

2. M&A – IT Security Services: AfterDark Technology, an MSP in Australia, has acquired IT security and services provider Wilkinson-Kent Consulting.

1. M&A Guidance - Office Equipment: Attorney Mike Dudek served as legal counsel and provided legal advice and services to Prime Office Technology on the sale of assets to Marco Technologies. Financial terms were not disclosed.
