Seagate and Acronis Team Up on Archival Storage

Seagate and Acronis have entered into a strategic alliance to deliver archival storage solutions tailored for managed service providers and enterprises. The collaboration integrates Seagate’s Lyve Cloud Object Storage, an S3-compatible platform, with Acronis’ portfolio to address the realities of AI-driven data growth, tightening compliance requirements, and escalating security threats. The joint offering, named Acronis Archival Storage, focuses on long-term, secure, and compliant data storage.

At the center of the solution are Seagate’s enterprise-grade security features. These include encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access control, identity and access management, and data immutability. The service aligns with ISO 27001 and SOC 2 standards, giving organizations a foundation for meeting strict regulatory obligations. For sectors such as healthcare, finance, legal, and utilities—where compliance is not optional—this approach provides a secure pathway for storing data that needs to be retained but is not frequently accessed.

Cost management is another key theme. Unlike many storage vendors that tack on charges for API calls and data transfers, Acronis is positioning this service around transparent pricing. For organizations that must retain massive data volumes over long periods, unpredictable billing is often as much of a headache as storage capacity itself. By promising predictable costs, the platform aims to give IT leaders better control over budgets while meeting compliance and audit readiness requirements.

The market backdrop makes this partnership timely. Industry metrics indicate more than 60% of enterprises now manage over a petabyte of data. Rising AI adoption, stricter regulations, and mounting cyber threats are fueling demand for archival storage that balances security with cost discipline. For MSPs, the integration into Acronis’ existing platform offers a way to expand their storage services without adding operational complexity.
