A growing number of managed service providers are feeling the strain of juggling too many security tools, reports Channel Insider. Heimdal’s recent survey of 80 MSPs found that more than three-quarters face alert fatigue on a monthly basis, with over half dealing with it weekly or even daily. Larger providers are hit harder - nearly half of those with more than 500 employees face daily fatigue, and for MSPs serving more than 1,000 clients, the problem is universal. The report links this burnout to “agent fatigue,” driven by excessive tools, constant alerts, and poor integration. The findings highlight how disconnected systems amplify false positives and slow investigations. MSPs with daily fatigue use an average of 7.4 tools compared to 4.5 for those with fewer issues. One in four alerts is a false positive, and in some cases, more than 30% of alerts are incorrect. The more time analysts spend chasing bad leads, the greater the risk of missing real threats. Beyond security, the operational drag is significant - billing across multiple tools, inconsistent vendor pricing, and manual reconciliation delay workflows, while onboarding new clients remains a major pain point.Despite the clear benefits of reducing tool sprawl, consolidation is slow to catch on. Heimdal identified three groups: Pioneers who have consolidated their stack, Contemplators who are weighing options, and Resisters who stick to best-of-breed setups despite the overhead. Consolidators report fewer false positives, faster response times, and higher analyst satisfaction. Still, concerns over migration complexity, vendor lock-in, and potential loss of features keep many MSPs from making the leap. The report recommends moving toward integrated platforms and expanding automation to cut down manual alert handling. Only 31% of MSPs have adopted AI or SOAR tools, despite their potential to ease workloads. Investing in compliance platforms that fit into existing workflows can also reduce manual effort.
