Be. Love. Be Love.

This blog is dedicated to a friend who has taught me more about love, perseverance and humor than anyone I’ve ever known. Today I left all my work on my desk, unfinished and unanswered. I packed up the car, then my husband and I headed to our friend’s house to have lunch. Our friend, John, has been battling terminal brain cancer for exactly three years and ten days. Here is what John reminded me today:
  • Love: Showing your love and sharing your love shouldn’t be reserved for special occasions. Every day in every way it’s totally cool to tell people how much you care. It doesn’t make you weak; it keeps you strong.
  • Appreciation: Pay attention today. People are helping you and supporting you in so many ways that you may not even notice. Maybe they are sharing your content on Twitter; maybe they are picking up your kids at school. Be more observant of how much support you receive every single day. You aren’t alone and you can’t do it alone. Appreciate your surroundings, your friends and co-workers and your family.
  • Perseverance: Three years and ten days. You can’t take a day off; you have to work and fight every single day. Chin up, focus and work toward a goal. No one said it was easy but seeing John and his family persevere through the last three years has made me realize how strong people can be when they need to be.
  • Humor: I am incredibly emotional; a real ‘crier.’ But today I laughed and smiled a lot. And I was reminded to find humor and happiness every single day. No matter what cards life deals you, find the humor and the happiness in the moments.
Thank you John, Gretchen and family for reminding me of these important messages -- so I can remind my friends and business associates. You are love. You are loved.
