The acquisition helps Onica expand its reach north while leveraging TriNimbus custom solution deployment tools. Those tools will be added to the Onica Platform library.
Onica CEO Stephen Garden offered this perspective:
"This is a defining moment for Onica. The acquisition of TriNimbus demonstrates an ongoing commitment to our relationship with AWS and confidence in its competitive position. The fit with TriNimbus is natural as both companies are aligned in so many ways. Plus, we collectively believe in the concept of mastery, and with AWS able to support any workload, there are a wealth of solutions we can enable for our customers."
Added TriNimbus Co-founder and CTO Goran ("Kima") Kimovski:
"This acquisition makes us one of the largest AWS consultancies in North America. Onica is in growth mode and will continue to invest and hire in Canada."
Onica, founded in 1983 under a previous name, began lift started focusing on AWS projects about four years ago. The company raised $20 million and acquired Sturdy Networks, another AWS partner, in 2017.
TriNimbus, founded in 2015, has expanded across five offices and launching multiple AWS community user groups. Kimovski led the development of various DevOps, container, and security solutions at TriNimbus.
AWS Partners and MSPs: Mergers and Acquisitions
Multiple AWS consulting partners have been acquired in recent months -- including a few with DevOps know-how. For instance, in May 2018 Reliam LLC, an MSP focused on Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, acquired G2 Tech Group, an AWS cloud partner that offers managed DevOps and SaaS automation services.
