As Hurricane Matthew threatens to head toward the United States, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has ordered 1.1 million people to evacuate from the shoreline. The goal is to move people at least 100 miles away from the coastline, she indicated.

The latest storm track, as of Tuesday evening, has the hurricane shifting west -- which could trigger more extensive damage when it reaches the United States.
