Hurricane Matthew: States of Emergencies Across Florida, the Carolinas

As Hurricane Matthew threatens to head toward the United States, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has ordered 1.1 million people to evacuate from the shoreline. The goal is to move people at least 100 miles away from the coastline, she indicated.

The latest storm track, as of Tuesday evening, has the hurricane shifting west — which could trigger more extensive damage when it reaches the United States.

Indeed, states of emergencies each are in place for Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina, and millions of coastal residents were warned to get ready to evacuate, NBC News reported this evening.

Hurricane Matthew has been battering Haiti, and the storm path according to The Weather Channel will potentially include:

  • Wednesday: Cuba
  • Thursday: The Bahamas
  • Friday: Miami and Jacksonville, Fla.
  • Saturday and Sunday: Georgia and the Carolinas.
